Trademark eSports’ Heroes of Newerth powerhouse team traveled to Thailand as European representatives and took a prestigious 2nd place, dropping games only to eventual champions Stay Green [sG] while winning a cash prize of $10,000.

In a region where Heroes of Newerth is as popular as Starcraft II and League of Legends in other parts of the world, the Garena Star League became the tournament to go to as representatives from all over the world featured in this two-day featured event.  Garena did nothing short but spectacular of hosting shows, ceremonies, and announcement with style as they brought on the local community that supported eSports.  Through the motivation of the bright stage and the hospitality of the Thai community, all the HoN teams competed for a total of $60,000.

Trademark eSports eased through the first day and proceeded onto the second day, knowing they would have to go against the Miami powerhouse Stay Green to get to the finals.   Despite losing to them in a knockout bracket, Trademark eSports preserved and fought through the entire losers bracket to earn them a place in the Grand Finals to seek revenge against their US rivals.

Unfortunately, it was not to happen.

In a best-of-five series where sG had the 1-0 by being in the winner’s bracket, Trademark eSports quickly lost their first game to have sG up 2-0.  In the final possible game for sG, Mynuts drafted a wombo-combo AOE team featuring Keeper of the Forest, Behemoth, Pyromancer, Glacius, and Tempest, but the coordination between the sG members proved to be too much as tdM conceded losing a Kongor token to Khezzu’s Warbeast.

Congratulations to all the teams that participated and congratulations to tdM and sG for representing the Western HoN scene as the dominant powerhouses.  With Las Vegas HoN Tour Finals coming soon, be sure that there will be a rematch.

Two brothers.  Torn apart by war, Linus “Limmp” Blomdin seeks to avenge his older brother as he enters the battlefield in various costumes: sometimes a chainsaw-wielding maniac, sometimes a woman of the Emerald Red, and sometimes as  an owl.   Whatever he appears as next he dominates anyone he goes against, even the brother he grew up with.

Limmp interview

Care to introduce yourself to those who aren’t as familiar as we are with you?
My name is Linus Blomdin, I am 17 years old and I live in Sweden. Ingame I am more known for my nickname Limmp where I play competetivly HoN with Trademark eSports.

Can you tell us a brief history of yourself as a player?
I haven’t really had any big success before this team. I started in a team called from Pubstars [fpbs] where I learned how to play competetive HoN and from there i’ve been in teams like HoNPortal [PORT] and TiG [Team It's Gosu].

What role do you play?
I mostly play on the mid lane as a ganker or soloing another lane.

What makes Trademark eSports better than the other teams out there?
We have a good drafter/leader and a good playstyle.

You have been moving teams lately after the disbanding of Blackfade.  How’s that been in terms of your in-game performance?
It was a good change for tdM in my opinion because now everyone can focus on their role instead of switching up every single game.

When have you started playing MOBA games, namely DOTA/ HoN?
HoN was the first MOBA game I played and I started playing it in late beta.

Did you think you’d be where you are today?
Not at all, I didn’t really play it more than for fun til I started playing with a team but even then I didn’t think I would be in a team as good as this.

Did you look up to any players, or were there people you played with in the beginning?
I thought Testie and Chu were awesome because they always bought a PK (Portal Key).

Many people have switched to DOTA 2 with good reason.  Why are you staying here?
I simply don’t enjoy playing dota 2 because of how “laggy” it feels when u come from HoN and I haven’t gotten bored of playing this game yet so I see no reason to switch.

Who are your favorite three heroes to play?
Zephyr, Scout and Bubbles

What three heroes do you hate going against?
Ophelia, Devourer and Succubus.

Fun Questions:

Blonde or brunette?  Brunette

Superpower?  Invisibility

Favorite drink?  Milk

Favorite hobby outside of video games?  Playing soccer.

If you had to room with another gamer, who would it be and why?  HeatoN because he is a legend and has big biceps.

League of Legends, or DotA 2?  Dota 2

Favorite TV show?  Suits, Entourage and Dexter.

Anything else you’d like to say?  Not really, thanks for having me on and shoutout to Trademark Esports for being big.

Born of an ancient ninja clan of the mountain, Lasse “noobG” Jacobsen was raised in a village above the ground in the trees, training to be the perfect weapon – never missing a single kill.   He now farms as a deadly hunter utilizing the trees and the art of deception as he represents Heroes of Newerth as the highest rated player and arguably the world’s deadliest carry.

noobG interview

Care to introduce yourself to those who aren’t as familiar as we are with you?
My name is Lasse Jacobsen – I’m 19, live in Denmark, and I’ve taken this year off following my high school graduation.

Can you tell us a brief history of yourself as a player?
I’ve played in a lot of mid-tier clans, but my real competitive debut was with fpbs. Most recently I played in sGty, but I had to leave because I couldn’t attend Dreamhack.

What role do you play?
Hard carry

What makes Trademark eSports better than the other teams out there?
I think the magnitude of your success as a team is limited especially by how good you are indvidually; not only are we excellent individual players, but we all have extensive competitive experience to accompany this.

When have you started playing MOBA games, namely DOTA/ HoN?
I never really marked the date of my first HoN game, but I believe it must’ve been ~6 months after beta release if I am to believe my friends (shoutout to xyvh for recommending the game to me). I never played Dota.

Did you think you’d be where you are today?
I’ve always been on the top of the ladder in games I’ve played long term – to me it was more a question of how long it would take!

Did you look up to any players, or were there people you played with in the beginning?
I really didn’t care too much about the competitive scene before I entered it myself – so no :(

Many people have switched to DOTA 2 with good reason.  Why are you staying here?
I think HoN has the better gameplay experience, and I don’t really have any foothold in the Dota 2 competitive scene

Who are your favorite three heroes to play?
The Dark Lady, Soulstealer, Flint Beastwood – in that order

What three heroes do you hate going against?
Tremble, Ophelia, Tempest – in that order

Fun Questions:

Blonde or brunette?  Blonde

Superpower?  Immortality

Favorite drink?  Cola, although I don’t drink a lot of soft drinks

Favorite hobby outside of video games?  I’ve spent a lot of time on currency trading and poker. My next project will probably be some programming/web design. Off the computer I love tennis and soccer, but I dont get to play those very often anymore :(

If you had to room with another gamer, who would it be and why?  Insania; I like to keep my enemies close (I suspect he’s a terrorist)

League of Legends, or DotA 2?  DotA 2

Favorite TV show?  Game of Thrones – boring answer, I know.

Anything else you’d like to say?
Le boots du yolo.  Shoutout to Trademark eSports and our sponsors!

After the legendary Icefrog had created DOTA, he placed a prophecy of a legendary warrior who would play the long lane and still get a Mock of Brilliance within fifteen minutes.  After many scholars had laughed it off, a traveling minstrel by the name of Ludwig Walhberg summoned his Wildsoul and did what everyone considered to be impossible.   As he began to ride Booboo off into the sunset, the children asked for his name.  “Zai,” he whispered, “Cheerio.”

Zai interview

Care to introduce yourself to those who aren’t as familiar as we are with you?
My name is Ludwig Wåhlberg, or mmbzai/zai` as most of you probably know me as, a 15 year old Swedish HoN player currently playing for tdM.
Can you tell us a brief history of yourself as a player?
I started out as an EU pubstar fighting for the huge glory of having 2k mmr and had some small teams with some friends, I played quite a bit in some inhouses
and eventually I got picked up by Blackfade where i started to improve, a lot.
In Blackfade, we finished 3d place at DHS 2012 but we disbanded afterwards.
After Blackfade we started up a new team that later on got picked up by iG, but unfortunately we broke up as well and now I’m playing with tdM.
What role do you play?
I mainly play suicide but in some cases i get promoted to different solo lanes.
What makes Trademark eSports better than the other teams out there?
I think we have some of the strongest individual players along with huge potential for improvement and great leadership.  All these combined will hopefully lead to global dominance.
You have been moving teams lately after the disbanding of Blackfade.  How’s that been in terms of your in-game performance? My individual skill is not affected, the only hard thing is the synergy and teamwork in the early stages of a new team but that’s not gonna stay with us for long.

When have you started playing MOBA games, namely DOTA/ HoN?
I started playing dota when i was 10 or 11, I was terrible but I thought it was fun and kept on playing public games.  I never got anywhere due to my lack of skill and age but I thought the game was fun and understood quite a lot of it.  When I received my beta key for HoN, which was about 1 or 2 months in to closed beta I transitioned and started playing
HoN.
Did you think you’d be where you are today?
Nope, nope, nope. Absolutely not.
Did you look up to any players, or were there people you played with in the beginning?
I looked up to fbps for succeeding with becoming a competitive team with only a public background.  That was something I was inspired by even though nowadays its not a great deed.
Many people have switched to DOTA 2 with good reason.  Why are you staying here? For me to switch to Dota I would need to have a team that has better chances of succeeding in Dota than I have chances of succeeding in HoN.  That opportunity has yet to come and I will probably stay in HoN for a long time with my new found team.  Neither do I think Dota is more fun as for now and that’s another reason I’m staying in HoN.

Who are your favorite three heroes to play?
Wildsoul, Valkyrie, Nomad.
What three heroes do you hate going against?
Fayde, Monkey King and Ophelia.
Fun Questions:

Blonde or brunette?  Brunette.
Superpower?  Telepathy.
Favorite drink?  Coffee.
Favorite hobby outside of video games?  Comics, music.
If you had to room with another gamer, who would it be and why?  Khezu cause then I could secretly steal all of his girlfriends.
League of Legends, or DotA 2?  DotA 2.
Favorite TV show?  The Wire.

Anything else you’d like to say?  Shoutout to Elliot Coleman.  Shoutout to Trademark eSports and our sponsors: Razer, Raidcall, and Twitch TV.  Cheerio.

Mynuts: captain, drafter, mystery man extraordinaire.   Not much is known about this mysterious wanderer who found himself leading Trademark eSports and several teams previous to uncontested glory, except that he is also seen around the company of many security guards and scantily clad women.  After tricking him into thinking that he won “Agent of the Year” (no such aware exists), we sat down with him to capture what makes the essence of Johan “Mynuts” Andersson.

Mynuts interview

Care to introduce yourself to those who aren’t as familiar as we are with you?
“My name is Johan “Mynuts” Andersson and I am the captain and drafter for Trademark eSports.”
Can you tell us a brief history of yourself as a player?
“I started playing competitive HoN back in the late summer of 2011 in TEAM WINSTON CHARMADON together with Fittske, Skyzoe, s4 and Jonassomfan. In our first tournament, and I think it even was our first tournament game ever, we beat MSI. We instantly got contacted by Lions who picked us up, I really think that sponsorship was great for us because the motivation it gave us helped propel us to the top. We finished 3rd at DHW 2011 which was a huge disappointment since we were favorites to win. It was however the first LAN tournament for pretty much everyone in our team, and we rectified it by winning NASL a week later. Lions then disbanded and I went on a hiatus playing Diablo III for a while before I came back to HoN to ring for TteS at DHS 2012.”
What role do you play?
“I Jungle – that’s my role.   Why do you even ask?”
What makes Trademark eSports better than the other teams out there?
“Trademark GAMING is better than all the other teams because Limmp is a beast, noobG only lives once and zai` is the Complexity slayer.”
When have you started playing MOBA games, namely DOTA/ HoN?

“Heroes of Newerth beta.
Did you think you’d be where you are today?

Yes.”
Did you look up to any players, or were there people you played with in the beginning?

“Fly #1″

Many people have switched to DOTA 2 with good reason.  Why are you staying here?

I’m way too old to make a transition, if anything I should consider retiring.”
Who are your favorite three heroes to play?

Dampeer, Legionaire, and Wretched Hag.”
What three heroes do you hate going against?

“Dragon, Dargon, and Draconis.”

Fun Questions:

Blonde or brunette? Blonde

Superpower? Yes.

Favorite drink? Coke

Favorite hobby outside of video games? Outside?

If you had to room with another gamer, who would it be and why? Diva, because sexy time.

League of Legends, or DotA 2? DotA 2

Favorite TV show? Arrested Development

Anything else you’d like to say? Potato.  Shoutout to Trademark GAMING and our sponsors: Razer, Raidcall, and Twitch TV.

Trademark eSports Heroes of Newerth team has qualified to compete with Stay Green in the Garena Star League as the North American/European representatives featuring 32 teams from around the world and a $60,000 prize pool.  After dropping the first qualifiers to Stay Green 0-2, Trademark eSports took a strong revenge in the second qualifiers and fought Complexity Gaming off 2-0 in the finals to qualify for the dream trip to Thailand.

After an exciting game which saw Complexity nearly take the first game, and picking Pebbles in both games, Trademark eSports mixed up the lineup with interesting picks that have not been seen in the competitive scene in a long time, showing the variety of strategies that Mynuts and his teammates had planned and practiced for.

Monkey King made a show after being successful against TTeSports just the day before in a 2-1 victory, Limmp played a suicide Pharaoh who harassed middle lane continuously when just the game before, he had played a farming Aluna, and NoobG was tossed onto a Hammerstorm to back Zai up on Wildsoul as a secondary carry.

After a long two games that saw Complexity gracefully give up their seat in Thailand, I took a late night seat with Love “Fittske” Brandstrom to talk about the recent success and what to look forward to.

First of all, how does it feel to go to the other side of the world to play the game you love?

“Feels really good to finally have it “secured”, the first qualifier was a huge blunder from us and we we’re a bit nervous going into the second   one. But everything turned out great and I’m really looking forward to the trip, the culture, the competition, it’s all going to be amazing.”

I bet nobody expected Stay Green to not only beat Complexity but also Trademark as well.  How did Mynuts, or specifically the team react after that?

“We knew sG had stepped up their game a lot the last couple of weeks, but it still came as a bit of a shock that they beat us as easily as they did. At first we were really bumed out about it, we eventually got past it and I think we showed that we are able to pull ourselves out of a slump.”

We saw a lot of heroes we haven’t seen for a long time – Monkey King on Noobg, and suicide Pharaoh on Limmp.  Should we expect more interesting pickups in Thailand?

“We’re always looking to pick up new heroes, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. There’s a couple of aces up our sleeves, if we choose to reveal them at GSL or at the HoNtour finals in Vegas time can only tell!”

The different HoN scenes all over the world will bring different metas and strategies – are you guys looking to counter these and study them, or just play your own game?

“It’s hard for us to get replays etc from CIS and SEA teams, so the easiest way for us to perform good in Thailand is to trust our own game. We simply have to make them play our game, not the other way around and we are excellent at that.”

Thank you for your time, any shoutouts?

Shoutout to our sponsors: Razer, Twitch, and Raidcall.   Shoutout to Trademark eSports and the BangBangCrew!
